Varanasi: Stone pelting broke out between two groups over Tajia, many injured

Varanasi. During the Muharram procession in Varanasi, a stampede broke out after stone pelting started between the Shia and Sunni communities. This incident is from Doshipura in Varanasi. More than 20 bikes parked on the spot including the police jeep were vandalised.

More than 100 people have been injured in the stone pelting. There was anarchy on the roads for about two hours. Even after heavy vigilance and security cordon in Varanasi, there was a ruckus during the Muharram procession at Doshipura in Jaitpura area.

The controversy over taking out the Tajiya procession took a fierce form. There was a fierce struggle between Shia and Sunni community. After the fight, there was a lot of stone pelting. Along with bricks and stones, weapons were also used.

More than 100 people have been injured in the ruckus. More than 20 bikes parked on the spot including the police jeep were vandalised. She also got damaged in the process of carrying Tazia.

Stone pelting continued even after the police reached the spot. The police lathi-charged the miscreants. After getting information about the incident, Police Commissioner Mutha Ashok Jain reached the spot along with other officers, police force, ARF and PAC jawans of several police stations.

When the police reached the spot, there was heavy stone pelting from both the sides. When the police, saving themselves, tried to disperse both the parties, the atmosphere worsened. Doshipura remained a battlefield for two and a half hours.
