New Delhi.Former explosive Indian cricket team opener Virender Sehwag has joined the ICC Hall of Fame, alongside former Indian women’s team player Diana Edulji and ex-Sri Lankan batsman Arvind de Silva. Diana Edulji has made history as the first female Indian cricketer to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.
While legends Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid were earlier included from the men’s side, Edulji is the pioneering Indian woman to achieve this honour.Expressing gratitude, Virender Sehwag thanked the ICC and the jury for the honor, acknowledging the immense support from his family, friends, and well-wishers throughout his career.
Virender Sehwag is the eighth Indian male cricketer to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, while Edulji has become the ninth Indian overall. Only former cricketers who must have been retired for at least 7 years get a place in this exclusive ICC club. Sehwag, famous as ‘Nawab of Najafgarh’, thanked ICC for joining the hall off.
In his illustrious Test career spanning 104 matches, Sehwag amassed 8,586 runs at an average of 49.34 and also contributed with 40 wickets through his spin bowling. In ODIs, he scored 8,273 runs in 251 matches at an average of 35.05, claiming 96 wickets. Known for his aggressive style, Sehwag played 19 T20 International matches, scoring 394 runs. Renowned as one of the modern era’s most dangerous batsmen, Sehwag holds numerous records in his name.
