According to the IMD, the severe cyclonic storm Mocha weakened after hitting the coast of Myanmar on Sunday. The cyclone caused massive devastation in the port city of Sittwe in Myanmar.
Flood-like situation arose in some parts of Sittwe, the capital of Myanmar’s Rakhine province. Winds blowing at a speed of 130 miles per hour blew away tin roofs. According to rescue services in Myanmar, two people died in the landslide.
At the same time, local media has reported the death of a person due to falling of a tree in Myanmar. The biggest storm to hit the Bay of Bengal in more than a decade turned the streets of Sittwe into rivers.
The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rain at a few places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya Arunachal Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on May 15 under the influence of Cyclone Mocha.
IMD has also issued an orange alert regarding this. On the other hand, rain with thunder and lightning is expected at different places in South Interior Karnataka. While lightning may occur at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, Kerala and Mahe.
