Bengal: Violence again during Ram Navami procession in Hooghly, internet shut down, BJP MLA injured

Kolkata. A big news has come out from Hooghly district in West Bengal. Prohibitory orders were imposed and internet services suspended after two groups clashed during a Ram Navami procession at Rishra in Hooghly district on Sunday evening.

In the case, the police said that two processions were taken out on the occasion of Ramnavami in Rishra police station area and the second procession was attacked at around 6.15 pm near Wellington Jute Mill turn on GT Road. Police said that some policemen were injured in the violence.

BJP’s National Vice President Dilip Ghosh also participated in the Ram Navami procession. After the departure of Dilip Ghosh from the programme, suddenly the incident of fighting between the two sects started.

He told that this incident happened on GT Road in Rishra police station area. The BJP leader alleged that people in Mahesh were going to the Jagannath temple with a procession when stones were pelted at them. In view of the situation, a large number of police forces have been deployed at the spot.

A senior official of Chandan Nagar police station said that the clash started at around 6.15 pm. The IPS officer said, “The procession was going through its traditional route when a group pelted stones at them. We immediately took steps to control the situation.

He said that the police took immediate action and the situation is now under control. An official said that a large number of police personnel have been deployed in the area for the time being to prevent clashes from flaring up again.
