New Delhi. On Monday, the women wrestlers sitting on the dharna filed a petition in the Supreme Court for registering an FIR against the President of Wrestling Federation of India, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
7 women wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat have filed a petition in the Supreme Court. It was said in the petition that despite a complaint being lodged at Delhi’s Connaught Place police station on April 21, the FIR has not been registered.
On behalf of the women wrestlers, the lawyers will demand an early hearing tomorrow in front of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.At the same time, the Delhi Police has sought a report from the inquiry committee constituted by the Sports Ministry to probe the allegations of sexual harassment against Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
A senior official gave this information on Monday. The official said that so far seven complaints have been received against the WFI president and all of them are being investigated. He said that an FIR will be lodged only after getting concrete evidence.
“As part of the investigation, we have sought a report from the inquiry committee set up by the Sports Ministry to look into the allegations of sexual harassment leveled against the WFI chief,” he said.
Several national award-winning wrestlers are protesting at Jantar Mantar to demand that the findings of the monitoring committee probing the allegations of sexual harassment against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh be made public.
