Bern: Preparations to bomb the Parliament of Switzerland have failed. In this case, a suspect has been arrested here on Tuesday. The accused, wearing a bulletproof vest, was caught near an entrance with explosives.
This incident took place on Tuesday around 2 pm. As soon as the information about this incident was received by the authorities, the Parliament House and the related offices were evacuated. Along with this, the surrounding roads were also closed for several hours.
According to the information received, the Federal Square and the surrounding streets outside the Parliament House in Bern, the capital of Switzerland, were closed for several hours. Parliament’s security guards found a man who looked suspicious because of his appearance at the southern entrance.
The car of the accused was in Bundesplatz. He was in a bulletproof jacket, as well as wearing a pistol holder. When he was checked, explosive material was found from him. Police said the accused was handed over to the emergency services stationed there and was later taken to the police station for investigation.
After the accused was caught, the Bern canton police, including experts from the fire and explosion department, were specially called in to examine the car. However, there is no indication yet about the possible motive. Police resorted to drones and sniffer dogs for investigation.
At the end of the investigation, it was found that there was no danger to any car, after which the roads around the Parliament were opened again. At present, the physical and mental examination of the accused is being done. The police have started a criminal investigation.
