Bhopal. Mohan Yadav took oath as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday. Along with him, Jagdish Deora and Rajendra Shukla took oath as Deputy Chief Ministers. In this way, along with the Chief Minister, there will now be two Deputy CMs in Madhya Pradesh.
Along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and Chief Ministers of BJP ruled states were also present in the swearing-in ceremony of Mohan Yadav. Ending the speculations going on for several days, BJP on Monday chose Yadav as the new Chief Minister of the state and Veteran party leader Shivraj Singh Chauhan could not make the record of assuming the post of Chief Minister for the fifth time.
Yadav (58), a minister in the Chauhan government, was unanimously elected leader of the BJP legislature party during a meeting on Monday. Rajendra Shukla and Jagdish Deora will be the Deputy Chief Ministers of Madhya Pradesh.
Yadav is considered close to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and was not being seen as a contender for the top post. He belongs to the Other Backward Class (OBC) community, which accounts for more than 48 percent of the state’s population.
After being named the Chief Minister on Monday, Yadav met Governor Mangubhai Patel and staked claim to form the next government. Yadav was elected MLA from Ujjain South seat for the first time in 2013.
He retained the assembly seat in 2018 and again in 2023. In last month’s assembly elections, the BJP won 163 of the 230 assembly seats in the state, pushing the Congress to second place with 66 seats.
