Chandigarh. BJP leader Balwinder Gill was shot dead on Sunday night at Jandiala Guru near Amritsar. After which he has been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
At present, his condition is being told out of danger. According to the information received from the police, BJP SC Morcha general secretary Gill Jandiala was at his home in Guru’s Jyotisar.
During this, two masked youths reached his house riding a bike and asked his daughter to call Gill. As soon as Gill came near the gate to see the youths, bullets were fired at them. A bullet passed through his jaw, due to which his life was saved.
The incident is being told around 9 on Sunday night. On the other hand, while condemning the incident, the BJP has called it an attempt to vitiate the atmosphere in Punjab and demanded the arrest of the accused soon.
Gill was busy in the Jalandhar Lok Sabha by-election. According to sources, he had recently returned from Jalandhar after campaigning with senior leader Kewal Kumar. Kumar dropped her outside her house in Amritsar and went back.
Police has started the investigation of the matter. SSP Satinder Singh of Amritsar Rural also reached the spot. The attackers had covered their faces, but the police have started scanning CCTV footage to identify them.
SSP Singh said that he cannot share more details at this point of time, but the police will soon nab the accused.
