Chandigarh. Big action has been taken after the video of the gang war in Punjab’s Goindwal Jail surfaced. This has given sleepless nights to the Punjab government and the jail administration. In this case, 7 jail officials have been suspended. At the same time, 5 jail officials have been arrested. By registering an FIR on all, the police is probing the entire incident.
IGP Headquarters Sukhchain Singh Gill identified the five jail officials suspended and arrested as Jail Superintendent Iqbal Singh Brar, Additional Jail Superintendent Vijay Kumar, Assistant Jail Superintendent Harish Kumar, ASI Joginder Singh and ASI Harchand Singh. While the two other jail officials suspended include Additional Jail Superintendent Jaspal Singh Khaira and Head Constable Savinder Singh.
In this regard, FIR No. 102 has been registered at Police Station Goindwal Sahib under Section 66 of Information Technology Act, Section 52 of Jail Act, Section 506 and 149 of IPC. Primarily jail inmates namely Manpreet Singh alias Bhau, Sachin Bhiwani alias Sachin Chowdhary, Ankit Lati alias Ankit Sirsa, Kashish alias Kuldeep, Rajinder alias Joker, Hardeep Singh alias Mama, Baldev Singh alias Nikku, Deepak alias Mundi and Malkit Singh alias A case was registered against Keeta.
The IGP said that after investigation, the police have named jail officials in this FIR for their negligence and in connivance with the jail inmates for shooting the video, which was shot on the day of the incident and leaked a few days later. He said that the accused jail inmates would be brought on production warrant for further questioning.
