Chandigarh. Veteran leader of Shiromani Akali Dal and five-time Chief Minister of Punjab Parkash Singh Badal will be cremated today at his native place Badal in Muktsar district of the state.
The mortal remains of 95-year-old Badal were kept for the last darshan at the Shiromani Akali Dal office in Chandigarh from 10 am to 12 noon on Wednesday, after which he was taken to his native village there. He will be cremated here on Thursday at around 1 pm.
Talking about the security arrangements ahead of the cremation of the former chief minister, Sri Muktsar Sahib Deputy Commissioner Vineet Kumar said, “The administration will make all efforts to see that the last rites are conducted well.”
All arrangements have been made. There will be strong security arrangements. The work related to the cremation ground is going on. Helipad, roads are being repaired. All preparations are being done for the CM and all the incoming ministers.
Earlier, people chanted ‘Panth Te Punjab Da Rakha’, ‘Prakash Singh Badal Amar Rahe’ and ‘Badal Zindabad’ when Badal’s body was placed in a specially decorated ambulance after kirtan and prayers at the Shiromani Akali Dal headquarters in Chandigarh. As they were raising slogans.
