Cyclone ‘Mocha’ likely to cause severe storm, IMD issues warning

Bhubaneswar. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the cyclone Mocha forming over the Bay of Bengal is likely to turn into a very severe storm by Friday, May 12, where the wind speed can reach 130 kmph. The cyclone is likely to intensify further on May 9 and turn into cyclone ‘Mocha’ on May 10.

Cyclone ‘Mocha’ formed in the Arabian Sea has taken the form of a severe storm, after which heavy to very heavy rain has been warned in Andaman and Nicobar for the next two days. By Wednesday afternoon, it will be clear through which routes the cyclone ‘Mocha’ will pass.

According to meteorologists, it is expected to move towards Bangladesh and Myanmar. Due to the cyclone, strong winds will blow on the coast of Orissa and West Bengal. This storm will be more powerful on Thursday. The Meteorological Department has also given an alert of heavy rain on the sea coast in many places. Orange alert has been issued for Wednesday in Andaman.

According to the IMD, a low pressure area has already formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea on Monday. The IMD said that a major storm has started gathering steam in the southeast Bay of Bengal and is expected to intensify into a cyclone by Wednesday.
