West Bengal DA Hike: The West Bengal government has decided to increase the DA of government employees by 3%. Presenting the Budget 2023-24, Minister of State for Finance Chandrima Bhattacharya announced this today. Chandrima Bhattacharya said that Mamata Banerjee government will give additional 3 percent DA for state government employees, retirees. This 3% DA hike will be applicable from March. The West Bengal state budget for the financial year 2023-24 was presented in the state assembly on Wednesday by the state’s Finance Minister (Independent Charge) Chandrima Bhattacharya.

In November last year, state government employees protested outside the West Bengal Assembly in Kolkata demanding a hike in dearness allowance at par with central government employees. The employees said that since the implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission, the Mamta Banerjee government has not given them revised dearness allowance.

West Bengal’s State Finance Minister (Independent Charge) Chandrima Bhattacharya has presented a budget of Rs 3.39 lakh crore. Among the major announcements of the budget are a 3 per cent hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) and extension of stamp duty exemption till 30 September 2023 by the West Bengal government. Apart from this, the CM Mamata Banerjee-led government has also announced a startup fund of Rs 350 crore to extend up to Rs 5 lakh each to young entrepreneurs.

The FM said that in the financial year 2022-23, the SGDP of Bengal is estimated to grow at the rate of 8.4 percent, the industry at 7.8 percent. He also said that agricultural income tax on tea gardens will be waived off for 2023-24 and 2024-25. To boost last mile connectivity, FM Bhattacharya announced that 12,500 km of rural roads would be constructed at a cost of Rs 3,000 crore.
