ED raids the house of minister Rathin Ghosh accused in municipality recruitment scam

Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday began searches at several places, including the residence of state Food and Supplies Minister Rathin Ghosh, in connection with its probe into alleged irregularities in recruitments done by civic bodies in West Bengal.

Officials said that accompanied by a large contingent of central forces, the ED team reached Minister Ghosh’s residence in Michaelnagar in North 24 Parganas district at around 6.10 am.

Along with this, investigators started searches at 12 other locations in connection with the case, he said. It could not be known whether Rathin Ghosh was at his home when the search began.

Ghosh, TMC MLA from Madhyamgram, was earlier an official of Madhyamgram Municipality. The ED has alleged that between 2014 and 2018, around 1,500 people were illegally recruited in exchange for money by various civic bodies in West Bengal.

This development comes two days after top TMC leaders protested against the Center in New Delhi. The politics of the state is going to heat up due to the latest raid on the Bengal minister.

TMC has on several occasions accused the BJP-led central government of misusing the investigation agency against its leaders.
