Former West Bengal CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharya admitted in ICU

Kolkata. Former Bengal Chief Minister and CPM leader Buddhadeb Bhattacharya was admitted to the ICU of Woodlands Hospital in Kolkata on Saturday after he had trouble breathing.

His oxygen level dropped rapidly, causing severe breathing problems. He has been put on non-invasive ventilation support, antibiotics and other supportive measures. Necessary investigation has been done and the report is awaited.

He is hemodynamically stable. After discovering that the oxygen level of 79-year-old Bhattacharya had dropped below 70, doctors suggested immediate hospitalisation.

After Buddhadeb Bhattacharya’s health deteriorated, he was hurriedly taken to the hospital through the Green Corridor from his house on Palam Avenue and was immediately put on ventilator support in the ICU.

Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, who was the Chief Minister of West Bengal from 2000 to 2011, has been battling COPD and other age-related ailments for some time.

A hospital official said that ‘Bhattacharya was admitted to the hospital due to lower respiratory tract infection and ‘type-2’ respiratory problem.

He has been put on non-invasive ventilation, antibiotics and other life-saving aids. His necessary investigation has been done and the report is awaited. However, now his condition is said to be stable.
