Presiding officer died during voting in Munger

Munger: Voting for the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections is going on in 96 Lok Sabha seats of the country. In this series, voting is also going on in Munger Lok Sabha seat of Bihar. Meanwhile, a major incident has come to light, where the presiding officer died. Omkar Kumar Chaudhary, who had come to vote in booth number 210 of Munger Sadar block of Munger Lok Sabha, middle school Shankarpur, suddenly fell ill and died.

Omkar Choudhary was working as headmaster of primary school Khadui in Tetiya Bamwar block. Rani Devi, wife of the deceased presiding officer, is the sarpanch of Bhuna Panchayat.There was mourning in the family after receiving the news of death. Family members told that he had reached the polling station on Sunday evening and when he got ready in the morning, he suddenly died there.

Under the fourth phase of general elections, voting is going on in five Lok Sabha seats of Bihar – Begusarai, Ujiarpur, Darbhanga, Samastipur and Munger. A total of 55 candidates including two Union Ministers are in the fray for these five seats.According to the information received from the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer of Bihar, 9447 polling stations have been set up by the Commission to conduct peaceful and fair voting on five seats under the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections.

The total number of voters on these five seats is 9583662, which includes 5049656 men, 4533813 women and 193 third gender voters. Out of the total voters, the number of voters in the age group of 20 to 29 years is 2142246, while the number of voters in the age group of 18 to 19 years is 151482.During the elections, special arrangements have been made for 92313 disabled voters and 83092 voters above 85 years of age.

Of these five seats, Begusarai has the maximum number of voters at 2200435 while Ujiarpur has the least number of voters at 1748377. A total of 55 candidates are in the fray for these five seats, which include 51 male and four female candidates. These candidates include five from Bahujan Samaj Party, three each from Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and one each from Congress, Janata Dal (United) and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas).
