Chandigarh. Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu can be released today after spending about 10 months in the Central Jail of Patiala. Sidhu’s family members and lawyer gave this information on Friday.
However, there is no official confirmation that 59-year-old Sidhu is being released. When contacted, Patiala Central Jail Superintendent MS Tiwana said, “When the orders for his release come, we will inform.”
Earlier, in the absence of Navjot Sidhu, in a tweet on Friday from the account run by his team, it was said, ‘It is informed to all that Sardar Navjot Singh Sidhu will be released from Patiala Jail tomorrow … as informed by the concerned authorities. Is.’
Sidhu’s release could again stir up the Punjab unit of the Congress, which was defeated by the Aam Aadmi Party in the February 2022 assembly elections. Sidhu was sentenced in the 1988 road rage case.
The former Congress Punjab unit chief surrendered in a Patiala court, following which he was sent to jail on May 20 last year. The Supreme Court sentenced him to one year’s rigorous imprisonment.
