Bucharest: One person was killed and 46 others were hospitalized after two explosions at a liquid petroleum gas station in Crevedia, near the Romanian capital Bucharest.
According to the government’s Emergency Response Unit (IGSU), after the first blast, the fire spread to two tanks and a nearby house, prompting the evacuation of people within 700 metres, while traffic on the national road was blocked.
Raed Arafat, deputy interior minister in charge of the emergency response unit, told reporters that a second explosion occurred at the LPG station on Saturday evening, injuring 26 fire brigade personnel.
“We think that more than four patients will certainly be transferred tonight to hospitals in Italy and Belgium,” Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu told reporters after an emergency meeting with state agencies involved in dealing with the crisis.
