Patna. There is speculation in Bihar that the only son of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who opposes ‘dynasty’, may enter active politics. Nishant Kumar is not usually seen in public. He has been seen with his father in public on very few occasions.
For the past few weeks, there has been speculation that the 73-year-old leader may agree to the “demands rising within the party” that Nishant formally join the JD(U). The JD(U) does not have a second-line leadership that can replace supremo Nitish Kumar after his resignation.
On Monday, speculation intensified when Vidyanand Vikal, associated with the party and head of the State Food Commission, posted a post on social media. Vikal wrote, “Bihar needs young leadership in the new political scenario. Nishant Kumar has all the required qualities. I agree with the opinion of many JD(U) colleagues that he should take the initiative and become active in politics.
” However, when Vijay Kumar Choudhary, former state JD(U) president and one of the most influential ministers in the Nitish Kumar cabinet, was asked questions in this regard, he claimed that the speculations were “baseless”.
Choudhary, who is considered close to the chief minister, said, “I would also urge the party men not to discuss this highly sensitive issue in public, it has no basis, rather it can create doubts in the minds of people.” When reporters explicitly asked if the subject was ever discussed in his meetings with the chief minister, Choudhary said, “What I have said is a sufficient answer to this question.”
