Punjab: 1179 villages in 14 districts hit by floods, more than 22 thousand people rendered homeless

Chandigarh. So far 22 thousand people have had to leave their homes due to heavy rains and floods in Punjab. The government and the administration have taken these people to safe places.

According to the government, so far 1179 villages in 14 districts have been affected by the floods.At present, the 14 districts which are facing the havoc of flood include Patiala, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Pathankot, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Faridkot, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar, Moga, Ludhiana, Mohali and Sangrur.

On the other hand, several ministers including Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann have visited the flood-affected areas. While Disaster Management Minister Bram Shankar Zimpa visited about a dozen flood-affected areas of Mohali district, Water Resources Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hair also visited Derabassi area. Took stock of the flood situation.

According to the spokesperson of the state government, 22764 flood affected people have been shifted to safer places. The number of relief camps has been reduced from 183 to 161 after the flood situation improved in some areas.

In view of the health of the people, the health department teams have increased the number of rapid response teams from 315 to 409 while the number of medical camps has also been increased from 186 to 252.
