Chandigarh. In view of the by-election to be held on the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat, on Wednesday, May 10, the Punjab government has declared a holiday in government offices, boards, corporations and educational institutions there.
The holiday has been declared under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.On Wednesday, the voting for the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat will be held from 8 am to 6 pm. The counting of votes will take place on May 13. This seat fell vacant after the death of Congress MP Santokh Singh Chowdhary.
In a statement here, the state government said it has issued a notification directing that a voter of Jalandhar Lok Sabha constituency, who is working in state government offices, boards or corporations and employees working in government educational institutions, should submit his voter ID card to the concerned authority within 10 days. May apply for special holiday for polling.
