Buenos Aires. The earth trembled in Argentina on Wednesday late night. According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake was felt at a distance of 84 km northwest of San Antonio de los Cobres in Argentina and its intensity has been measured at 6.5 on the Richter scale.
The earthquake occurred at 1 p.m. local time in the northwestern province of Jujuy, about 147 kilometers (91 mi) from the provincial capital San Salvador de Jujuy, and had an initial depth of 209 kilometers (130 mi). According to local media, its tremors were also felt in northern Chile.
According to reports on social media, residents of Jujuy were alerted about the earthquake on their mobile phones. No loss of life or property was immediately reported in the earthquake.
Due to the earthquake, panic spread among the people of the city and they came out of their homes. Argentina’s National Institute for Seismic Prevention said the quake was so strong that “hanging objects were seen swinging” in the affected areas.
