Philippines: 30 drowned after boat capsizes in lake, 40 passengers rescued

Manila: 30 people are feared dead after a boat capsized in a lake near the Philippine capital Manila on Thursday. Forty passengers have been rescued in this accident, while efforts are on to find many others.

The boat capsized in Laguna de Bay near Binangonan in Rizal province due to strong winds. The Philippine Coast Guard said the MBCA Princess Aya capsized about 50 yards from the Binangonan port.

The incident took place around 1 am when the motorized boat was hit by strong winds, causing the passengers to panic and leave in groups towards the port, when the boat capsized. Let us tell you that at this time the powerful storm Doxuri is passing through the Philippines.

The number of persons rescued and casualties have not been finalized yet and are still under investigation. A Philippine Coast Guard official said the number of rescues and casualties had not yet been counted, as the search operation in the area was still ongoing.

In March this year too, a major accident took place in the Basilan province of southern Bangsamoro region of the Philippines. In this accident, at least 31 people lost their lives when a boat caught fire.
