India is now an important friend in Russian foreign policy, Putin approves new foreign policy

New Delhi. In the new foreign policy adopted by Russian President Vladimir Putin, India has been placed in the category of a special partner on the global stage. China was also included in this.

Describing India and Russia as strategic partners in the 42-page document related to foreign policy, emphasis has been laid on deepening the relationship. The government of Russian President Vladimir Putin has reiterated that for him the importance of relations with India will increase further in the days to come.

The strategic partnership between India and Russia is based on five main pillars – politics, defence, civil nuclear energy, counter-terrorism cooperation and space. Relations between the two countries have been deep since the time of the Cold War.

According to the document, Russia will continue to build a particularly privileged strategic partnership with India with a view to enhancing and expanding cooperation in all areas on a mutually beneficial basis.
