West Bengal: 14 people died due to lightning in 5 districts of Bengal

Kolkata: At least 14 people died due to lightning in 5 districts of West Bengal. The officers provided this information. Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning occurred in many districts of South Bengal including Kolkata, Howrah, North 24 Parganas, Purba Bardhaman and Murshidabad on Thursday evening.

An official of the West Bengal Disaster Management Department said that 4 people died in East Bardhaman district and 2-2 in Murshidabad and North 24 Parganas due to lightning.

West Bengal police officials said that 6 more deaths have been reported from West Midnapore and Howrah rural districts. An official said, “Three deaths each have been reported from West Midnapore and Howrah Rural.”

According to officials, the victims were mostly farmers who were struck by lightning while working in the agricultural fields. An official of the Regional Meteorological Center said that Alipore recorded the highest wind speed of 79 km per hour.
